Dr. Sovan Bagchi is a distinguished academician and researcher, currently serving as a Professor of Physiology in the College of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Sciences at Gulf Medical University, Ajman, United Arab Emirates. With over 24 years of teaching and research experience, Dr. Bagchi has held academic positions across several countries, including India, Ethiopia, Libya, and the UAE.
He earned his M.Sc. in Physiology from the University of Calcutta and completed his Ph.D. in Medical Physiology from Banaras Hindu University in 1998. His research interests span cardiovascular physiology, neurophysiology, toxicology, and the application of artificial intelligence in medicine.
Dr. Bagchi has received numerous honors, including the INSA Visiting Fellowship, the Prof. B.B. Sarkar Memorial Research Award, and the UNESCO-IBRO Fellowship for neuroscience training. His technical expertise includes advanced physiological recording techniques, intracerebroventricular cannulation, neuronal cell culture, and molecular biology methods such as PCR and immunohistochemistry.
He has authored and co-authored numerous research publications in national and international journals, contributing significantly to the understanding of scorpion venom toxicity, cardiovascular reflexes, phytochemical screening, and the intersection of AI with clinical decision-making.
Dr. Bagchi is known for his interdisciplinary approach, blending traditional physiological research with emerging technologies, and continues to mentor students and collaborate on global research initiatives aimed at improving patient care and scientific innovation.
