Dr. Nisreen Alwan is an Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Safety at the College of Health Sciences at Abu Dhabi University.

Dr. Alwan received her BSc. (2003) and MSc. (2005) Degrees in Biology from AUB, Lebanon. In 2011, she obtained her PhD Degree in Natural Sciences from Goethe University, Germany. After returning to Lebanon, she was appointed as a Lecturer in the Biology Department at AUB. Since 2014, she joined the Modern University for Business and Science. She has served as a Dean of the School of Health Sciences till June 2019. From July till August 2019, she was the Acting Vice Provost at the Modern University for Business and Science, Lebanon. Since then, she was an Assistant Professor of Biology.

As of August 2020 and till now, she has joined Abu Dhabi University as an Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Safety. She has served as an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the College of Health Sciences from August 2020 till 2024. From October 2021 till February 2022, she filled in the position of Acting Dean.

Her research interests include environmental and food microbiology; antimicrobial resistance; systematics, taxonomy, molecular phylogeny and zoogeography of Cyprinidae in the Middle East; and social injustice and gender inequity. She works on the systematics, taxonomy, phylogeny, and zoogeography of the Capoeta damascina species complex (Pisces: Teleostei: Cyprinidae) inferred from comparative morphology and molecular markers.

She is currently leading with some colleagues at MUBS, Cardiff Metropolitan University, East Carolina University, and San Jose State University several research projects. She is the author of more than 30 internationally published articles.
