Currently, Prof. Haleama Al Sabbah is a Professor and Senior Public Health Nutrition Specialist at the Public Health Department, College of Health Sciences, Abu Dhabi University.
Former, Associate Professor and Senior Public Health Nutrition Specialist, Health Sciences Department, College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS), Zayed University, UAE. She completed her Ph.D. in Public Health Nutrition in 2008 at the Faculty of Medicine, Gent University, Belgium. Ph.D. scholarship from Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC). Dr. Al Sabbah had the opportunity for a Fulbright Senior Visiting Scholar and conducted Post-doctoral studies in Public Health and Nutrition at Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Center, Tufts University, Boston, USA.
Dr. Al Sabbah’s first degree in Public Health Nutrition from the Faculty of Medicine, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in 1990. She worked as a nutritionist at several hospitals in Amman, Jordan. From 1995 to 1998, she worked at the Red Crescent Society Maternity Hospital in Ramallah, Palestine. In 1997, a scholarship was awarded for Advanced Diploma in Primary Health Care at the Community Health Institute, Birzeit University, Palestine. In 1998, a scholarship was awarded for a Master of Philosophy in International Community Health and Nutrition in the Faculty of Medicine at Oslo University, Norway.
Dr. Al Sabbah served as the Chair of the Health Sciences Department at Zayed University in the UAE from 2016 to 2020, and the Director of the Public Health Department and the coordinator for the Master’s in public health, Faculty of Medicine at An-Najah University, Palestine from 2009 to 2013. She has made substantial efforts to achieve excellence in teaching students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research, and performing vital service activities at her university and community. She taught various courses in Public Health and Nutrition and served as a supervisor and examiner for Ph.D. and Master’s theses.
Dr. Al Sabbah is the principal investigator and leader for several research grants, has published numerous number of articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals, and serves as a guest editor (e.g. Frontier in Nutrition). Dr. Al Sabbah served as the chair for several committees, including the department search committee for a full-time faculty position in Public Health Nutrition, the Association For Nutrition (AFN) accreditation committee, and the Master’s program applications.
