Yamanappa Hunashal
Research Scientist New York University, Abu DhabiAdditional Details
I’m a biophysicist and structural biologist specializing in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, with over a decade of research experience spanning protein dynamics, metabolomics, and drug discovery. Currently, I’m a Research Scientist at NYU Abu Dhabi, where I use advanced NMR and metabolomics to study C. elegans lipid metabolism, drug–metabolism interactions, and the chemistry of natural bioactive compounds.
My previous work at NYUAD and the University of Connecticut Health Center explored avocado-derived lipids with nematocidal activity, bacterial resistance mechanisms, and protein–ligand interactions. During my PhD at the University of Udine (Italy), I developed NMR methods to probe protein conformational dynamics in amyloidogenic systems. I’ve co-authored publications in Nature Communications, Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Advanced Biology, and Biochemistry, and my research has been featured in Nature Middle East, NYUAD News, and international science media.
Beyond the lab, I’m passionate about mentorship, collaboration, and translating NMR insights into real-world biomedical applications from natural product drug discovery to understanding antimicrobial resistance and neurodegenerative diseases.
